Allete commissions 303-MW wind farm in Oklahoma :

.

Allete Clean Energy, part of US energy company Allete Inc (NYSE:ALE), said last week that the 303-MW Diamond Spring wind park in Oklahoma has commenced commercial operations.

The wind farm, located in Johnston and Pontotoc Counties, has power purchase agreements (PPAs) with retailer Walmart (NYSE:WMT), food-processing company Smithfield Foods Inc and coffeehouse chain Starbucks Corp (NASDAQ:SBUX) with terms of between 12 and 15 years.

Diamond Spring, Allete's biggest wind park, generates enough electricity to supply around 114,000 households. The wind farm consists of 112 turbines supplied by General Electric (NYSE:GE).

Allete, which owns assets with wind capacity of over 1 GW in total, acquired the project from Apex Clean Energy in May 2019.

The company is currently developing the 303-MW Caddo wind park in central Oklahoma, which is due to be operational by end-2021. The project has PPAs with three customers, including a contract for 200 MW of the total with fast food chain McDonald's Corp (NYSE:MCD).
